Request an Item

Looking to get an item from the library?

Library Catalog Request

Check our library catalog to see if we own the item you are looking for. If we do, you can place a hold on it. We’ll let you know when it’s ready for you to pick up.

Suggest to Purchase

If the item is not available in the library and you’d like the library to consider purchasing the item for Fairfield’s own collection, you can fill out the Suggest to Purchase form.

Interlibrary Loan Service

The Fairfield Public Library participates in Connecticut’s Interlibrary Loan program, greatly expanding the number of physical items available to Fairfield residents with a valid adult or young adult library card in good standing. This service can be used to borrow physical items not in our catalog but found in other participating libraries.

Please call or stop by the Adult Services Desk at the Main Library or Fairfield Woods Branch Library for more information or to ask a librarian if a participating library has the item you’re looking for and to request it for you.

    • Eligible patrons are limited to 5 active requests at any time.
    • Interlibrary Loans can be picked up and returned at either the Main Library or the Fairfield Woods Branch Library.
    • Request fulfillment is at the discretion of the lending library and not guaranteed to be filled. (Patrons will be notified if their requests cannot be fulfilled.)
    • Patrons will be notified of fulfilled requests, which will be placed on hold for 5 days, like any other item hold.
    • Patrons who do not pick up their Interlibrary Loan holds during the 5 days will be subject to a $10 fine.
    • Interlibrary Loan items are not renewable (Late fees for overdue Interlibrary Loan items are $1.00 for every day overdue.)
    • Patrons are responsible for items borrowed on their card and will be billed for replacement costs as set by the lending library for any lost or damaged items.
      (Replacements will not be accepted.)
    • Interlibrary Loan is a time-intensive and costly service. Therefore, privileges are conditional: repeated misuse of the service by a patron may result in temporary or permanent suspension of the privilege for that patron.

Local Author Procedure

If you would like the librarians to consider adding your published book to our collection, please submit a Local Author Procedure Form, along with a donated copy of your book, to the appropriate Department Head.
