This historical fiction book takes place in a hotel in Madrid in 1957. Eighteen-year-old Daniel Matheson is staying at the hotel where Ana is working. Ana and Daniel have very different understandings of what has gone on in Spain. Daniel is the son of a wealthy oil tycoon from America, and Ana has always lived a conservative life in Spain. The two bond together and figure out more about their own lives with the help of one another. They worked together to navigate the difficulty of Spain under the rule of a fascist dictator, General Francisco Franco.
