Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds

This unique take on a classic novel utilizes poetry to portray what feels like endless thoughts of a young boy about to commit a terrible action. The literal event of reaching his destination by elevator is also used as a metaphor. He has been through a lot with the recent loss of his brother and home life, mimicking the long descent that led him to this exact moment in time. This novel explores vengeance and self reflection on a deep level. The young boy, Will, contemplates whether he wants to relive the life of his father and brother or take a different route, all confined within an elevator.
