This science-fiction book follows Kira Navárez. Kira has always imagined life existing on different planets, and as part of her job, she surveys un-colonized planets. During this routine survey, she discovers something not so typical, an alien relic. At first glance, this is a marvelous observation, but she notices the ancient dust around her starts to move with further inquiry. Kira realizes this may be more than what she bargained for. When a war begins among the stars, Kira starts to change, and she realizes she might have to push past what she believes it means to be human.
