With The Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo

Something daunting and undesirable by almost everyone at this age  is placed in the hands of Emoni, a highschool freshman. She struggles to come to a consensus on things like college and getting a job, and is thrown multiple curve balls. Studying abroad and a class packed schedule isn’t exactly easy with a toddler in the picture.

With her unusual support and mature decisions, this young girl creates possibility and success for her and her child’s future. Through this long and far from easy journey, Emoni discovers that asking for help isn’t a sign of vulnerability, instead a sign of courage.
