In the story Allegedly by Tiffany D. Jackson the main character Mary Addison is an African American teenager, spending her time of 6 years in custody for the alleged murder of a white baby. At the age of 9 years old Mary and her mother, who suffered from mental illness, were entrusted to take care of a baby. The baby’s name was Alyssa Richardson, when the family came to retrieve Alyssa, they found her brutally murdered. The story touches on heavy topics such as racism and mental illness. The feeling and depth of Mary’s point of view make it a book worth reading. Along with the incredible perspective and heart-tugging story line, any reader will be incredibly engaged and want to know the ending.
