Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

Fantastic writing was used. Despite being a big book, the pacing was excellent, and I felt like I was reading it much more quickly than many other lengthy fantasy books. The vivid universe and mysterious magic system that Adeyemi creates are perfectly complemented by her lovely words. Every aspect of Orisha was well accomplished, including the history, the conflict between maji/diviners and nobility, the various kinds of magic, EVERYTHING. This universe has really captured my attention, and I can’t wait to see how it develops in next books.

This tale has a lot of action. There are never-ending chase sequences, grand combats using swords, staffs, arrows, and other types of magic. There are several surprising turns and a lot of tension. There is a lot to admire in the well built plot. Although you won’t be able to *completely* foresee what will happen next, Children of Blood and Bone will have you on the edge of your seat the entire time you read.
