An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green

Hank Green’s first novel, an absolutely remarkable thing, is an exciting modern book that will keep you reading. The story follows a young graphic artist named April. One night, April is walking home and sees a weird new sculpture. It looks like a large robot man with a metal suit of armor. April calls up her friend Andy who is a videographer and they make a video of the sculpture (now named Carl) and post it into YouTube. The next morning April wakes up to discover that her video had gone viral overnight. Apparently a bunch of Carl sculptures have been dropped all around the world and no one knows where they came from. April shoots to fame because she was the first to document this alien invasion. The story follows her shoot to fame and how she navigated how her social media fame affects her real life relationships. Green touched on the effects of social media in an interesting way.
