“YES NO MAYBE SO” by Becky Albertalli and Aisha Saeed follows Jamie and Maya. Two seventeen year old’s working on a political campaign that brings them to each other. Jamie and Maya come from different upbringings. Jamie is from a Jewish family, while Maya comes from a Muslim family which leads them to have many cultural differences to navigate within their relationship. As they campaign together, they become very close and Jamie catches feelings for Maya. Will Maya feel the same way even though she has a strict “no dating” rule? Maya was undergoing very big changes within her life, her parents were in the midst of a divorce and her best friend was moving to college, maybe Jamie was exactly what she needed. A good guy who could bring some stability to her life. Throughout this book there is huge character development for both Jamie and Maya as they navigate through not only their relationships, friendships and who they want to be. The book switches between both Jamie’s and Maya’s point of view and readers get to feel their every emotion and hardships. “YES NO MAYBE SO” by Becky Albertalli and Aisha Saeed is a very charming coming of age love story. It involves real situations that readers can relate to that make you never want to put the book down!
