I thought Super Fake Love Song by David Yoon was a fun and heartwarming read with a unique twist. The story follows Sunny Dae, a high schooler who pretends to be a cool, rebellious guy by fabricating a fake persona, all in an attempt to impress the girl of his dreams, Zara. What I loved about the book was how it balanced humor and romance with deeper themes of self-identity, family, and the pressures of living up to unrealistic expectations. Sunny’s journey of figuring out who he really is—beyond the persona he’s trying to project—felt both relatable and authentic.
The book was full of quirky, memorable characters, especially Sunny’s family, who added a lot of heart and humor to the story. Sunny’s relationship with his older brother was a standout, as it explored themes of sibling dynamics and personal growth. What really kept me hooked, though, was the romance between Sunny and Zara, which was sweet and layered, as it grew from a fake relationship into something much more genuine.
One small thing that left me a bit frustrated was the pacing at times—it felt like certain plotlines or character moments could have been developed a bit more. Still, Super Fake Love Song was a delightful, funny, and touching read that kept me engaged from start to finish, and I really appreciated how it explored what it means to truly love and be loved for who you are.
