The Factory by Catherin Egan

Imagine a world where one can power their house by touching a sensor on their wall. In the story The Factory, human electromagnetic energy can be harnessed to do so. A thirteen-year-old boy, Asher Doyle, is invited to test the new innovation in a top-secret experimental program, supposedly designed to create “Clean Energy for Future Generations!” by harnessing people’s electromagnetic energy. However, as Asher arrives at The Factory, he is greeted by a set of armed guards and a prison-like building; it quickly becomes clear that The Factory is dangerous and holds secrets. The staff won’t provide information on the secretive nature of The Factory, and as kids start disappearing, it becomes Asher’s duty to uncover the truth about this building. I recommend this book to readers who are just entering the dystopian genre, as the story provides a captivating plot while also staying true to the principles of a dystopia.
