The Final Gambit by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

**** This review is for the final book in The Inheritance Game series, beware of spoilers! ****

I’ve been obsessed with The Inheritance Games series since the start. The clever puzzles, danger-laden mystery, and increasingly complex Hawthorne family kept me completely enthralled. As each subsequent book ratcheted up the tension, I had a lot invested in The Final Gambit—and it did not disappoint.

As the final book, it is the perfect finale. Avery Kylie Grambs, aka “a very risky gamble,” is mere weeks from being left her fortune in October, but with new enemies and revelations unfolding, peril has never been greater. After unexpectedly being named the sole heir to billionaire Tobias Hawthorne’s fortune, Avery must survive a labyrinth of riddles, power struggles, and family secrets to claim what’s now hers. Suspense is masterfully constructed so that each new obstacle is more treacherous than the last.

I also enjoyed watching the resolution to the on-again-off-again love triangle. The emerging dynamic between Avery, Jameson, and Grayson added emotional depth and hence was more fulfilling in its resolution.

Fast-paced and full of twists, this book had me guessing everything until the very end. And that ending? The perfect combination of resolution and shock. If you love intricate mysteries, jaw-dropping twists, and characters you can’t help but love, The Final Gambit is a must-read!
