You’ll Be the Death of Me by Karen McManus

Friendship breakups and mendings in high school are not uncommon by any means. Although, the rekindling of Ivy, Mateo, and Cal is unusual to say the least. Ivy, a type A student, just lost her student council election and is heartbroken. Mateo is burned out, he’s been working two jobs to support his family. Cal got stood up…again. To any high schooler, these things could easily cause a bad day. However, an average high schooler does not deal with the pain and annoyance of a bad day the same way these three did. The three friends run into each other and decide to skip and go into the city. All is well until they run into another Carlton High student ditching school. The friends decide the best way to spend their skip day is to follow the fellow Carlton High student. Unfortunately, they find themselves at the scene of a murder. Surprisingly, the murder causes Ivy, Mateo, and Cal to become closer than ever. Karen McManus is known for her murder mystery novels. You’ll be the Death of Me is not only one of her most recent releases, but arguably her best. The mysterious feel leaves readers at the edge of their seat, but the high school drama references make it relatable to most audiences.
