Library Express Service

The Fairfield Public Main Library is open for quick browsing and checkout on weekday afternoons from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. The Woods Branch building will remain closed to the public during the elevator construction project currently taking place.  Construction is anticipated to be complete by the end of September.

In order to ensure the safety of our staff and patrons, a number of changes have been put in place. We ask for your patience and cooperation with our new procedures.

Facemasks are required for all individuals entering the building. Staff and patrons will observe social distancing and remain six feet apart while in the library. If you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19, do not enter the Library.

Both the Main Library and Woods Branch will continue offering Curbside Pickup, Virtual services and Digital materials and services. Information services are available by phone (203) 256-3160, email at eref@fplct.org and text messaging (askfplct to 66746).

HOURS & CAPACITY

The Main Library will be open for Express Service Monday-Friday from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. In accordance with State of CT Reopening Guidelines we are limiting patron capacity to 20 people at a time. You may be asked to wait in line outside the building until we have space for additional patrons. Keep a distance of at least 6 feet whether inside or outside. When visiting, plan for short visits under 20 minutes. Please be conscious of your time and be courteous to others. Whenever possible, please limit visits to only one member of your family/household at a time.

IN-PERSON SERVICES AVAILABLE

A portion of the first floor of the Main Library will be open to patrons. You may browse certain collections including new books and new dvds.
2 public computers are available on a first come first serve basis for a maximum of one 20 minute session per day. Adult Services staff are unable to provide assistance with the public computers due to social distancing guidelines.
The Children’s Services Department has relocated a portion of borrowing materials to the main floor of the library. This temporary location will have a limited capacity of 10 people at one time. Everyone visiting this area must wear a facemask and adhere to social distancing guidelines. All children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. When visiting, plan for short visits under 20 minutes. Please be conscious of your time and be courteous to others.
Holds: Curbside Pickup will remain operating at the Main Library and Woods Branch (Curbside FAQ). If you pick up your hold during Main library in-person service hours, please be sure to cancel any Curbside Pickup appointment you may have scheduled.

Please do not bring food into the library at this time.

ACCESSING THE LIBRARY

Please return all materials to the book drop on the side of the building. Enter and exit the Main Library through the doors on the parking lot side of the building. There may be a wait to enter due to capacity restrictions. Please use available sanitizer when entering the building. Observe all social distancing rules, signage and floor markings. Facemasks are required at all times covering the nose and mouth. If you are unable to wear a face covering, Curbside Pickup and virtual/digital materials and services are available to you.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

• Limited building capacity.
• Frequent cleaning of the building and service points.
• Staff and patrons will wear masks at all times and maintain a social distance of 6 feet.
• Each service desk has a plexiglass shield.
• Quarantining of returned materials.
• Our procedures are based upon guidelines provided by the CDC (Center for Disease Control) and IMLS (Institute of Museum and Library Services) on the safe handling of library materials. Findings of the REALM Project will also inform future industry standards regarding library materials handling.
• No materials donations will be accepted at this time.

BOOK RETURNS

Please continue to return all materials to the outside book drops. All returned materials will be held for 96 hours before being checked in. Late fees will be waived during this time, but we ask that you return material on or before the due date. Holding materials beyond the due date without renewing may impact your ability to place holds, access services or prevent other patrons from borrowing wanted materials.
