Which roles are you interested in? Check as many as you wish.

RECURRING Weekly or Monthly Tasks:

Greeting and directing patrons at the Ambassador Desk; Fairfield Main Library. (Weekly role)

Sorting donated books and readying them for re-sale; Main Library. (Weekly)

Providing 1:1 technical support to patrons regarding their laptops, tablets and smartphones; Main Library. (By appointment)

Providing sewing assistance to patrons who use the machines; Woods Library Branch. (Weekly)

Choosing a section in the Library “stacks”, such as gardening, and ensuring the books are properly shelved, neatly presented and repaired. (Main & Branch; can be done as often as you’d like each month.)

Delivering Library materials to homebound patrons and daycare facilities; from the Main Library & Woods Branch; driver’s license required. (Usually, the first week of each month)

Reading to Seniors in various local communities. (Once a month)

Events: Helping with Friends events and Library programming which occur several times each year, e.g., Big Book Sales, Soundwaves concerts, One Book One Town, Food Truck Festival, Mini Golf Tournament. The Friends of the Library is a 501(c)3 organization which raises funds for the library and sponsors events.

Set-Up and Breakdown of the event (may require some physical tasks)

Distributing flyers and placing signage to promote the events.

Assisting during the events (run on Library property as well as local sites; may include nights and weekends)

Special Projects: Assist the Library staff and the Friends organization as needs arise. Please check the expertise you could provide.

General: Run small, short-term, self-directed projects, such as updating volunteer data and training materials or culling magazines from the Periodical Room.

Technical Skills: Do data entry; create forms, spreadsheets, and databases

Graphic Design: Help produce materials such as newsletters, brochures

Social Media: Help prepare content and distribution for platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter

Join the committee which supports the installation and breakdown of art exhibits, event hospitality and publicity. (While the committee is often at capacity, volunteer openings may occur during the year.)
