Bruce S. Kershner Art Gallery

Current Exhibit: Viewpoints

The Bruce S. Kershner Gallery at Fairfield Public Library invites the public to their opening reception for Viewpoints, a show of paintings by Clayton Liotta, Cathryn Falwell, and Jean Benoit. The reception will take place from 5:30-7:30pm on Thursday, June 12; the artists will speak at 6:00pm. Refreshments will be served.
Clayton Liotta is a self-taught American artist who has worked in a variety of media, including film, stone, wood, paint, wire, papier mache, and charcoal. His subject matter runs from real to surreal, with pieces ranging from an 8 1/2-foot grizzly bear made of chicken wire to a tiny hand carved from graphite. Clayton’s work can be seen at several Connecticut galleries and special exhibitions held throughout the year. He lives and works in New Milford.
Cathryn Falwell received a BFA in art from the University of Connecticut, where she studied printmaking and drawing. She has exhibited her work in numerous galleries in the U.S. and is also the author and illustrator of over 25 picture books for children. Cathryn says, “Trees have always had a fascination for me, and walking in the woods brings me peace and inspiration. My current work, done in charcoal, relief print and collage, is a translation of my exploration of the natural environment.”
Jean Benoit is a self-taught artist born in Haiti, where he was exposed from an early age to an array of art forms including folk dance and traditional artisan arts. At age 12, he emigrated to the U.S. where he discovered an abundance of cultural diversity and contemporary ideas which have since influenced his art. Jean says he draws inspiration from “all aspects of the universe” and calls himself a “lifetime student of the arts.” His work has been shown in numerous galleries.
Viewpoints can be seen from June 7 – July 26 in the Kershner Gallery during regular Main Library hours.
