The Fairfield Public Library will launch its new Summer Reading Program for children, teens and new this year – adults – on June 1.
The Library expects many more families to stay close to home if not right in Fairfield this summer. In response the Library has designed summer reading fun from toddlers to teens to adults. This summer participants may register, input their books, write reviews, and maintain their reading records all online. People will then be able to register from home, camp, the beach or while on vacation starting May 26.
Children’s Summer Reading Game and Events
The theme for the Children’s Summer Reading Game is “Be Creative.” For the first time children may select any book from anywhere (e.g., home library, book store) not just the Library. Children who do not yet read may have books read to them. Many prizes will be awarded culminating in children in fourth and fifth grade who have read ten books and children in grade three and under who read fifteen books will receive a ticket for a special performance of the Harlem Wizards at RLMS on Thursday, August 13.
Bring a beach blanket to Penfield Pavilion and join the fun at the Pre-School Sing-Along at the Beach on Thursday, June 11 (no rain date). Invitations to the Sing-Along may be picked up (including permission to park without a beach sticker) at the Children’s Desk. Watch for upcoming programs in July and August including: Side by Side for Babies, Summertime for Twos, Theater Games, Wild Zoofari, and Caldecott Kids.

Teens - The Art of Summer
Fairfield Teens entering grades 6-12 will experience “The Art of Summer” starting June 1 to August 6. Teens may register online and begin logging the books they have read. Each week, one report will be selected for the weekly raffle prize, a $50 gift certificate to a local business. For every 100 pages read, a raffle ticket is earned for the Grand Raffle prize. The more each teen reads the more chances they have to win great prizes. June 1 teens may register for programs all scheduled for Thursdays from 2 to 4 pm. The Art of Summer programs include: the Art of Duct Tape, the Art of Cookie Sculpture, the Art of Yoga Dance and the Art of Making Music. All participants will be invited to the Finale Party and Grand Prize Give-Away will take place on Thursday, August 6 at 2:30 pm.
Adult Summer Reading Program
For the first time adults will be able to participate in their own summer reading program. Online registration will begin May 26 with the program starting on June 1. Each week a different reading theme will be highlighted with displays at both the Main and Branch Libraries. As a participant in our summer reading program, visit the library each week in person and you may enter our random prize drawing. Four authors will help to celebrate summer in Fairfield.
