Description of Organization and Activities:

Community Sailing of Fairfield, operated by its members, under the auspices of the Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department, is based at the Town Dock in beautiful Southport Harbor. This sailing program makes available to its members, two fixed keel, family-size Ideal 18′ daysailers, four two man kayaks and two one man kayaks. Household memberships are available to anyone over the age of 18. The annual fees for a household are: $395 (full week), $250, (weekday only) and a 10% discount for seniors. This entitles any family member over the age of 18, who has passed our skills testing, to reserve unlimited two-hour sailing slots from May through October. Skippers must be in possession of a “Connecticut Safe Boating Certificate” and pass a test to demonstrate basic sailing and water safety skills. A certified sailing instructor is available to provide lessons to achieve the required skills. The program offers weekly racing opportunities hosted by the Pequot Yacht Club and the option for members to race our boats in area regattas.

Fees/Dues: The annual fees for a household are: $395 (full week), $250, (weekday only) and a 10% discount for seniors.

Founded in 1914, Birdcraft is the first private bird sanctuary in the United States.  This six-acre site  was originally planted as a refuge to attract, harbor, and feed migratory and resident birds.  To date, more than 120 bird species have been recorded on its grounds.  Birdcraft’s focus today is offering premier natural history education programs and events for children and adults.  It is also a federally-licensed Bird-Banding Station.

Connecticut Audubon Society conserves Connecticut’s environment through science-based education and advocacy focused on the state’s bird populations and habitats. Founded in 1898, Connecticut Audubon Society (CAS) operates nature facilities in Fairfield, Milford, Glastonbury and Pomfret, an EcoTravel office in Essex and an Environmental Advocacy program in Hartford. Connecticut Audubon Society manages 19 wildlife sanctuaries around the state, preserves over 2,600 acres of open space in Connecticut and educates over 200,000 children and adults annually. Working exclusively in the state of Connecticut for over 100 years, CAS is an independent organization, not affiliated with any national or governmental group. -

Connecticut Audubon Society’s scientists, educators, Citizen Scientists, and volunteers work to preserve birds and their environments in Connecticut. The Connecticut Commuter Rail Council is an independent board that acts as an advocate for commuters on railroad lines throughout the state, including the New Haven line, New Canaan, Danbury and Waterbury branches, Shore Line East, and the planned New Haven-Hartford-Springfield line.

Council members are appointed by the Governor and senior leaders of the General Assembly. We work with the Department of Transportation and Metro North Railroad to bring forth the experiences of rail commuters and ensure their voices are heard. Our critically acclaimed group is celebrating its 51st year of performing great choral works in southwestern Connecticut.  The winner of the 2011 Artist of the Year Award from the Fairfield Arts Center, the Chorale consists of over 100 auditioned singers, representing a broad range of ages and music backgrounds.  The repertoire ranges from the great classics to commissioned works and world premieres.  The Chorale has performed at such prestigious venues as Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center.  Its season consists of three concerts performed at the Norwalk Concert Hall, each with a professional orchestra and soloists.

The Explorer program is an official program of the Fairfield Police Department, designed by the Boy Scouts of America to expose young men and women (ages 13-22) to the vast career choices available in Law Enforcement today. Many of our alumni have continued to successfully achieve positions in local Law Enforcement, State Police Departments, as well as Federal appointments with Law Enforcement agencies throughout the country. Explorers learn in both the classroom and field environment, including actual “hands-on” field experience. Weekly meeting presentations including training on police duties, forensic science, self-defense, investigation, and even firearms and weaponry.

Fairfield Pop Warner and the Fairfield Giants are affiliated with Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc. (PWLS), a non-profit national organization that provides youth football and cheer & dance programs for participants in 41 states and several countries around the world.

The Fairfield Giants are part of the Fairfield Junior Football program.  There is a board of directors consisting of 21 insightful and dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to provide a fun, safe, positive, family like atmosphere for all the kids to enjoy.
