Children's Library

Check the online Children's Calendar of Events for current program dates and times and to register online for a program or see the printable Children's Program Brochure. During the summer some of these programs do not meet and others meet for fewer sessions. Please check the current calendar for exact dates and times.

Please note: Children’s Programs are cancelled when Fairfield Public Schools are closed, delayed, or closed early due to weather.

BABY PLAY GROUP

In this drop-in program, parents and babies will hear stories, sing songs, and learn finger plays that are designed especially for babies. There will be time for free play where parents can choose books, toys, and materials to use individually with their child. During free play parents often informally share parenting experiences with other caregivers. Siblings are welcome. Filled on a first come - first served basis.
MOTHER GOOSE ON THE LOOSE

A four week program for pre-walkers (up to 15 months) and a parent/caregiver.  Join us for developmentally appropriate books, fingerplays, songs, rhymes and movement.  Please make arrangements for younger and/or older siblings so your child has your undivided attention in the program.

DROP IN FUN ONES

A drop in program using books, movement, fingerplays and music for 15 to 24 month olds with an adult.   Learn new activities and visit old favorites like Old MacDonald and Patty Cake.  Sign language for the very young will also be introduced.  Each session meets once a week for four weeks and does not require registration.  No siblings please. Filled on a first come - first served basis.

TERRIFIC TWOS

Another one-on-one program for two year old toddlers and an adult. A social time for children and adults that includes music, movement and introduction to young children's books, new and old. Meets one morning a week for 4 weeks.

TODDLER TIME

Toddler Time is for pre-registered toddlers, ages 15 mo. to 24 mo., accompanied by their adult. No siblings please.  This is a one-on-one program for the toddler and their adult.  Adult/Child couples will be interacting with each other by reading books, playing with age appropriate puzzles and toys, listening to music and moving to rhythm, and hearing a read-aloud story with the Children’s Librarian.  

PAJAMA STORY HOUR

Wear your pajamas and fuzzy slippers, bring your favorite teddy or blankie and get ready for bed with some stories, songs, finger rhymes and other fun activities! Pajama Storytime is an evening of fun for children ages 2 through 6 and a parent or favorite adult. Check the Children's Program Calendar for dates and time.

MAD ABOUT DAD

Attention 3 to 5 year olds!  Bring Dad to the library for a storytime and craft. Have fun while singing songs and learning new fingerplays. Filled on a first come - first served basis.

PRESCHOOL STORYHOURS

A 4 week program, meeting once a week, to introduce 3, 4, and 5 year olds to age appropriate books, songs, fingerplays or crafts. The program provides an opportunity to experience a group situation, promotes listening and is geared for children ready to separate from their adult.

BOOK BUDDIES - FATHER/SON BOOK GROUP
Book Buddies program is a group of dads (or favored adult) and boys, ages 8-11. They meet once a month in July and August and every other month during the school year to discuss popular books. The groups take a break midway to go into the children's library for a game, word/book hunt or other activity. Click here for more information.
GOOD BOOKS WE SHARE - MOTHER/DAUGHTER BOOK GROUP

Girls in grades 3, 4 and 5 and their Mothers meet for an hour one evening a month during the summer and every other month during the school year. Books are chosen for their appeal to girls and to foster discussion between the generations. Click here for more information about this program.

BOOKWORMS

Be the first to read the newest fiction arrivals at the library! Avid readers in grades 3 through 8 convene to discuss and select titles for the Review Board Recommended List. The group meets monthly during the school year and weekly for five weeks in the summer. Click here for more information about this program.

FRIDAY FILM FEST

A series of short films based on well known children's books are presented on Friday afternoons in the summer. No registration is required and all are welcome. Filled on a first come - first served basis.

SUMMER READING GAME

Keep reading skills sharp by playing the summer reading game. Spin a wheel to determine a category, choose titles and record your progress in a reading record. Rewards are scheduled along the way while new areas of the library collection are explored.

SATURDAY DROP-IN STORYTIME

Special Saturday Drop-In storytimes are designed for children ages 3 and up who are ready to separate from Mom and Dad.  Come listen to stories, songs, fingerplays and sometimes even see a short movie or complete a simple craft.  Parents and caregivers are asked to stay in the Children’s area while the program is going on.  Filled on a First-Come, First-served basis.


Please note that all drop-in programs are filled on a first come - first served basis. To avoid disappointment, please arrive early.
