The Wanteds are the strong and intelligent who get to go to University, the Necessaries become the manual laborers, and the Unwanteds are the creative and artistic ones get eliminated from society.
When Alex is categorized as an Unwanted, he thinks he is being sent to his death. Yet, he finds out that Unwanteds are really sent to a place called Artime. In Artime, students practice to turn their creative abilities into magic.
Yet, Alex has a twin brother who was placed into University as a Wanted. When a mental connection between the boys threatens the safety of Artime, Alex must choose where his loyalties lie. Should he betray his own twin brother to save the magic of Artime, or is blood thicker than all else?
