Purrrfect Picturebooks

Are you ever in the mood to just watch videos of adorable cats? We get that way too. But sometimes you really just need a good book about adorable cats. Here are some of my favorites.

It’s All About Me-ow: A Young Cat’s Guide to the Good Life by Hudson Talbott follows an adult cat as he gives three kittens advice on how to charm, entertain, and communicate with their new human family. A fun, funny and accurate guide for kittens everywhere.

How to Be a Cat by Nikki McClure uses cut-paper illustrations and single words of text show a kitten’s attempts to imitate an adult cat’s mastery of such skills as stretching and stalking. More serious that It’s All About Me-ow, but still as charming.

Millions of Cats by Wanda Gag is a classic picturebook published in 1928 about an old man and his wife who want want cat but end up finding millions and trillions of cats!

Bits & Pieces by Judith Byron Schachner follows Tink, a cat with a kitten and everything he could want but the adventures of the wild escapes outside and realizes how much he misses his family.

Posy! by Linda Newbery; Illustrated by Catherine Rayner follows  Posy the kitten as she has lots of adventures catching spiders, swiping crayons, tangling yarn, and cuddling.

Matilda’s Cat by Emily Gravett follows Matilda and her cat as she tries to figure out what her cat likes to do.

And just because, here are my kitties as kittens. Hermione is now one and a half. Houdini is two and a half.

I’m a Boston girl through and through! I love steampunk… in fact, I had a steampunk wedding. I love Victorian Gothic novels and am currently writing a middle grade novel titled Claudette and the Bibliotheque! I have an MA in Children's Literature and an MS in Library Science from Simmons College in Boston. I do not read anything but books for children and young adults. Ever.
