The Fairfield Woods Branch Library is now home to a freshly-planted vegetable garden, courtesy of the many preschool helpers that attending our Garden storytime and planting event on Friday, June 6. Stop by the Fairfield Woods Branch this summer and watch our garden grow……….and maybe if you’re lucky, it will be time to pick some peas, beans, or other yummy vegetables!
Thank you to Amie Guyette Hall, certified Square Foot Garden educator, for her efforts in bringing this to “fruition,” and also to Ganim’s Garden Center in Fairfield for their generous donation of seedlings for our project.
Is your family ready to plant a garden? Amie recommends Square Foot Gardening with Kids by Mel Bartholomew (635 B). See how easy, fun and educational it is to get the whole family involved in a SF garden! Mel reveals all of the tips, tricks, and fun projects he has used over the decades in one of his most cherished pursuits: teaching youngsters to build and grow their own kid-sized SFGs!
Miss Judy suggests getting the kids project-ready by reading some tasty and colorful gardening stories, including: Growing Vegetable Soup by Lois Ehlert (P Ehlert), Vegetables We Eat by Gail Gibbons (J635 G), and Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert (P Ehlert).
