Parrots Over Puerto Rico by Susan Roth and Cindy Trumbore

This nonfiction picture book about the parrots of Puerto Rico and and scientists’ observations of them is a perfect STEM/STEAM titles. It is full of excellent factual information but told in a narrative that is both engaging and moves along.

The outside cover leads you to believe the book has a horizontal orientation, but upon opening it, the illustrations and text are not laid out from left to right, but from top to bottom. Each spread is colorful and dynamic collage covers three-quarters of each two-page spread.

This book is a visual delight and would serve as a great addition to studies on ecosystems, rain forests or just as a feast for the eyes.

I’m a Boston girl through and through! I love steampunk… in fact, I had a steampunk wedding. I love Victorian Gothic novels and am currently writing a middle grade novel titled Claudette and the Bibliotheque! I have an MA in Children's Literature and an MS in Library Science from Simmons College in Boston. I do not read anything but books for children and young adults. Ever.
