The concept of this book is fantastic. The language and the narrative are effective and fun to read.
However, the illustrations bother me. On one hand, I dislike them. They are aesthetic displeasing to me, too sketchy and unattractive. On the other hand, they are rats. Rats are ugly. And the spreads effectively convey the confusion and the chaos with depth and perspective perfectly.
But still. I just do not like how ugly the illustrations are. But it is still rather original and brilliant. So I give it 5 stars for narrative and execution of illustrations and not for aesthetic reasons.
I don’t know, this is a weird review of a weird book. It’s so good…but it’s not…
